About Street Child Project

The Beginning

The NAS Street Child Project (NSCP) began in 2013, when National Association of Seadogs (Pyrates Confraternity) received a request for assistance from the late Marion Sikuade, founder of Child Life Line Lagos (a foremost street child NGO in Nigeria founded by her over 20 years ago.

Her request came at a time when the organization was looking into the significantly high rate of out-of-school children in Nigeria with UNESCO and UNICEF statistics indicating that:

Nigeria accounts for 10.5 million of the 61 million “out of school children” worldwide.

40% of Nigerian school children between the age brackets of 6-11 years are out of primary school, another 30% are drop-outs while only 54% transit to junior secondary school.

Certain that this was a huge issue, the National Association of Seadogs identified that children who did not have the privilege of a home and parents are the most vulnerable. Among them are orphans, abandoned and abused children many who are on the streets. Whilst we recognize the huge task it was, NAS is determined to contribute its quota.

Education makes a difference

We have always maintained that education is the key enabling factor that makes a great difference in children early in life if they are exposed to storybooks and creative play that help energize their imagination.

Thus we carry out direct intervention and support to Street Children causes: through NGOs and orphanages.

For us at National Association of Seadogs (Pyrates Confraternity), where ever the community in which we live need a helping hand the pyrate must be first, and recognising that every day that we do nothing or we do too little the problems can multiply.
