……Completes Quarterly Road Cleaning as Part of Adopt-A-Highway Program
Greenbelt, MD, October 26, 2024 — Continuing its commitment to community service, the National Association of Seadogs (NAS), Pentagun Deck, has renewed its agreement with the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) for an additional two years under the Adopt-A-Highway program. Following the renewal, NAS Pentagun Deck conducted its quarterly road cleaning exercise on Saturday, October 26, covering the 1.8-mile stretch from Edmonston Road to University Boulevard and Route 193 in Greenbelt, Maryland.
The Adopt-A-Highway program, managed by MDOT SHA, encourages local organizations and volunteers to help maintain Maryland’s roadways by adopting specific routes to keep clean. By committing to this program, NAS Pentagun Deck seeks to contribute to the local community by preserving the beauty of its public spaces and promoting environmental consciousness.
Commitment to Service and Environmental Stewardship
As part of their quarterly road cleanup, NAS members worked together to clear litter and debris from the roadside, ensuring a cleaner and safer environment for all who travel through this well-used route. The 1.8-mile stretch, connecting Edmonston Road and Route 193, is not only a vital link within Greenbelt but also an area where NAS is proud to make a visible difference. This regular cleanup effort underscores the organization’s dedication to environmental stewardship and its belief in fostering a clean and vibrant community for all residents and visitors.
NAS Pentagun Deck Capoon, Mr. Edem Duke, expressed pride in the group’s efforts: “This partnership with MDOT SHA is an opportunity for us to give back to the community in a tangible way. Our commitment to the Adopt-A-Highway program is not just about keeping roads clean; it’s about living our values and setting an example of community responsibility.”
A Creed of Comradeship and Chivalry
The National Association of Seadogs operates with a guiding creed centered on comradeship, chivalry, and service to society. A core part of NAS’s philosophy is the belief that members, known as Pyrates, must be the first to lend a hand wherever the community has a need.
In alignment with these values, NAS proudly proclaims: “Wherever the community in which we exist needs a hand, in whatever cause, to enthrone our principles, the PYRATE shall be first!” The quarterly road cleanup is just one example of how NAS lives out this principle through dedicated action.
Looking Ahead: Continued Community Partnership
With the renewed two-year agreement with MDOT SHA, NAS Pentagun Deck looks forward to many more road cleanup events as part of its ongoing commitment to the Adopt-A-Highway program. The organization remains enthusiastic about maintaining Maryland’s roadways and setting a positive example of civic engagement.
NAS Pentagun Deck’s efforts go beyond cleaning highways. The chapter is actively involved in numerous local initiatives.
