Greenbelt, MD, October 28, 2024 — In a significant move toward promoting electoral transparency and civic engagement, the Prince George’s County Board of Elections voted unanimously today to approve the National Association of Seadogs, Pentagun Deck (Washington DC/Maryland Chapter), as official Challengers and Watchers for the upcoming Election Day on November 5.
The National Association of Seadogs (NAS), a service-based organization, will take on the role of nonpartisan observers to help ensure a fair and orderly voting process across polling locations in Prince George’s County. This designation allows NAS members to monitor voting activities, verify proper procedures, and ensure compliance with election laws. This is the first time that NAS’s Washington DC/Maryland/Virginia USA chapter, also known as the Pentagun Deck, has been authorized to participate in this capacity on Election Day in Maryland.
With a long-standing commitment to civic responsibility and community service, NAS has established itself as an advocate for integrity, equity, and active citizenship. The group’s election engagement this year aligns with its dedication to the chivalric values of accountability and justice. Members of the Pentagun Deck have received guidelines to fulfill their roles responsibly, in compliance with county and state guidelines governing Challengers and Watchers.
A Role Rooted in Transparency and Accountability
As designated Challengers and Watchers, NAS members will maintain a presence at polling places to observe the voting process, report any discrepancies, and serve as advocates for transparency. Their work will include ensuring voter identification protocols are followed, monitoring the handling of ballots, and confirming adherence to proper procedures at voting stations. The organization’s involvement is particularly focused on enhancing public confidence in the electoral system and safeguarding against any potential irregularities.
NAS Pentagun Deck Capoon, Mr. Edem Duke, expressed gratitude to the Prince George’s County Board of Elections for granting NAS this opportunity to contribute to the election process.
“We are honored by this trust and excited to support a fair and secure election process in Prince George’s County,” said Mr. Duke. “Our members are committed to upholding democratic values, and we view this role as an extension of our dedication to the community and to justice.”
Community Commitment Beyond Election Day
In addition to their Election Day activities, the Pentagun Deck chapter of NAS regularly participates in initiatives aimed at community building and empowerment. From educational programs to outreach events, NAS has made its mark in Washington, DC, and Maryland through service projects that promote goodwill, unity, and support for the underserved.
Their latest initiative, the “Shop with a Cop” program in partnership with the Greenbelt Police Department, exemplifies NAS’s emphasis on community engagement. The group has raised funds to ensure that local children from disadvantaged backgrounds can enjoy a memorable holiday shopping experience with local law enforcement officers.
